Variable Easy (Sun Style) Tai Chi for Health

A new simplified system of variable length Tai Chi exercise for health

Listed below are statements from pupils explaining how the VETCH system of Tai Chi exercise has helped them.

Comments

As this site is new we have not got around  yet to sorting out recent comments from pupils and instructors about what they have gained from the new exercise system.

Such comments will be added shortly: Until then here is the results of an interesting survey questionnaire of the Portcawl class in 2004 when the numbers were only 12. Now numbers are  25 to 30

“Feed Back Form” The Results

Out of a class of 12 , 10 submitted a form. Instructors comments added in Green

1.No one practices every day at home. Three do not practice at home at all. Most practice a few times a week at home when they can. To get the full benefit from practice you should practice daily.

2. Eight have arthritis and two do not. Of the eight with arthritis seven said practice has helped them cope with it, but only four said the pain had reduced. One arthritis sufferer made no comment about the effect of practice. Perhaps daily practice would yield better results?

3. Nine said that practice had improved their general health, one did not comment  Pleasing result

4. All ten reported feeling more relaxed. One reported a marked improvement in her sport of rifle shooting. Very pleasing result

5. Nine out of the ten  thought practice gave them a better balance. Good, it has been proven that for elderly ladies Tai Chi practice helps prevent falls.

6. Six had felt energy flow of “qi” during  practice and four had not. This is about normal for a class. Remember there is more to Tai Chi than the physical. The objective is to control the body internally using powerful exercises of imagination and imagery or mental feelings to produce internal healthy chemical changes.

7. All said they did not need a special  rest period during class practice. Students can drop out to sit down whenever they want so a  special rest period for all is not needed.

8.  Six considered knowledge of self defence applications of Tai Chi were not important but four thought they were important. The four were right

9. Two members, who had arthritis and had thought self defence aspects important to know, also said that they would like partner practice such as pushing hands. No one said they did not want to do it. Most did not want to answer this question suggesting they did not understand what pushing hands practice was all about. Pushing  hands practice is normally regarded as essential for real Tai Chi, but arthritis sufferers may not be able to cope with it. We plan to do it in the evening class only.

10. Four said they would like to learn Sun Style solo sword movements with wooden swords. Four said maybe they would and two said no. Seems the jury is still out

11. Nine said that after  learning the five modules they would like to learn traditional Sun Family  97 movement routine.  Only one said they did not want to.

The 97 is the original classical forms sequence produced by Sun Lutang and is the basis for Sun Style Taichi. It is famous and practiced world wide.

About the evening class now in Pyle (2004) , Three said they have attended this class. One said that they did not go as it started too late. One said they would come but had other activities on a Tuesday. Two said they did not come because they did not have transport but may come if the evening class was relocated to Porthcawl. One did not care to comment.  One would come only to another daytime class. (2009 comment: )The evening class at Pyle Life Centre later closed due to lack of support. Evening classes are not so well supported as daytime classes are. We are now planning a new daytime class for Pyle Life Centre.
